Jess William “Bill” Brown

Mr. Jess William “Bill” Brown passed away
Sunday, July 4, 2010 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital
with the comfort of his family.
He was born April 9, 1928 in Ann Arbor, Michigan
a son of Jess Yeoman and Eleanor ( Howley ) Brown.
On December 1, 1951 he was married to
Dorothy Louise Bennett at
St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Ann Arbor.
Mr. Brown was a long time resident of Ann Arbor.
Mr. Brown was a member of
St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church,
Dexter American Legion ,
Ann Arbor Elks Lodge,
Knights of Columbus, N.R.A.,
Tri-County Sportsman League,
and the State Street Area Association.
He was a proud supporter of the
Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Association.
He was proud of the fact that he received
his motorcycle operator’s license at the age of 75.
Mr. Brown was also an avid deer hunter.
During the Korean War Mr. Brown proudly
served his country in the U.S. Army
with the 101st Airborne Division.
Mr. Brown was the owner of the College Shoe Repair &
Hockey store on Williams Street in Ann Arbor.
The store was founded by his father and
grandfather in 1937.
Mr. Brown took over ownership in 1951.
Mr. Brown was the beloved husband for
59 years of Dorothy Brown.
Dear father of Mary “Midge” (Brian Duggan) Hirth,
Beverly (Andrew) McDonnell, Dale (Howard) Camfield,
Patrick Brown, Jackie (Vince) Price and
Douglas Brown.
Fond grandfather of 6 grandchildren;
Jake, John, Alex, Chad William, Glen & Maddie.
Brother of LouAnn Brown and Elizabeth Redies.
Preceded in death by his son
Jess William Brown, Jr. on Oct. 21, 1982.
The family will receive friends from 10 A.M. until the
time of the memorial mass at 11 A.M. on Saturday,
July 10, 2010 at St. Thomas the
Apostle Catholic Church, 517 Elizabeth, Ann Arbor.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the
American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.
